House of Bruar prices its US store at about 1.7 times the sterling figure in its own product data, and labels every garment in UK sizes. This review reads only what the store publishes, checked on October 15, 2026.
Nutri Grader grades supplements, not tweed. The method does not change: read the written commitment, record the date, ignore the photography. We apply it to a jacket page the same way we apply it to a product label.
No garment was ordered, worn or measured. This post contains affiliate links, and Nutri Grader may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That arrangement did not move a single figure below.
- The US price is not a currency conversion. The Men's Harris Tweed Jacket displayed $555.00 while the same page's product data carried 325.00 GBP, read October 15, 2026.
- Labels are UK sizes. The Guide to Sizing states that all labels inside the clothes and footwear show the UK size, whatever country you order from.
- Men's garment numbers do not shift. The published converter maps UK 36 to 52 against identical US numbers, and against EU 46 to 62.
- Shipping is $8, or free over $200. One product page publishes that rate with a four to six business day window; another publishes UK rates instead.
- Returns run one month, at your cost. Both product pages checked carry the same wording, with postage refunded only when the error is the store's.
The catalog is deep, and menswear is where the depth sits
Menswear carries the volume. The Men's Knitwear listing showed 1,011 products and Men's Jackets & Blazers showed 690, both read on October 15, 2026.
The fabric filters show where that volume sits. Knitwear lists 320 lambswool items, 316 wool, 241 cashmere, 189 merino, 84 cotton and 4 silk.
Jackets split differently: 148 blazers, 134 padded, 89 waterproof, 81 fleeces, 57 field jackets, 48 overshirts, 48 softshells and 38 wax jackets.
That is specialist depth rather than a general store. A shopper hunting one tweed hacking jacket in a long fitting has better odds here than in a department store.

The filters are the fastest way to shop the site. Fabric, size and colour counts sit on the category page, so stock depth is visible before you click into anything.
Every label inside the garment is a UK size
The Guide to Sizing is blunt about this. It states that all labels inside the clothes and footwear show the UK size, and that the mismatch is deliberate rather than a packing error.
For menswear that costs you nothing. The published converter lists UK 36 through 52 against identical US numbers, with EU running ten higher at 46 through 62.
Womenswear is where it bites. The same page maps UK 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 to US 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 - a four-size gap.
Footwear moves again, and in a third direction. Ladies UK 3 to 9 maps to US 5 to 11, while men's UK 6 to 13 maps to US 7 to 14.

One sentence on that page matters more than the tables. The store says its buyers source from suppliers worldwide, so sizing may vary between brands and is not always standardized.
Garment-level charts exist for most items. The page says those charts give the actual physical measurements of the garment rather than body measurements, which is the more useful number if you own a tape measure.
Shirts get their own table. Collar 15 pairs with a 38 chest and collar 19 with a 54 chest, so a US buyer ordering by chest alone can land a size out.
The sizing complaints on Trustpilot are about substitution
House of Bruar is rated 4.6 out of 5 and labelled "Excellent" on Trustpilot, checked October 15, 2026. The total review count was not readable on the page on that date.
The sizing complaints are specific rather than vague. A reviewer on October 1, 2026 wrote that a numeric UK 14 order arrived as a letter-sized large, and that two returns cost them the postage.
A second reviewer, dated October 5, 2026, reported slippers marked size 9 that measured noticeably smaller than other size 9 shoes in the house.
Two reviews are not a pattern, and neither order was verified. They do match what the store itself publishes: brand-by-brand variation, plus a return trip paid by the buyer.
The store's own curated testimonials page gets no weight here, for the same reason we discount hand-picked praise when we check what a third-party seal actually verifies.
The fabric lines are specific; the care lines are stricter
Fabric disclosure is better than most catalogs manage. The Harris Tweed jacket lists 100% pure new wool, with a lining of 51% viscose and 49% acetate.
The care line is the catch: dry clean only. On a $555.00 jacket that is a recurring cost, not a one-time one.
The lambswool sweater is plainer and stricter. It lists 100% lambswool, hand wash at 30 degrees Celsius, liquid soap, no biological detergent, no tumble drying, dry flat, cool iron.
Neither garment is machine washable. If your wardrobe has to survive a washing machine and a dryer, this is the wrong catalog for you.

One claim here is independently checkable, which is rare. The Harris Tweed Authority states that where you see the Orb mark, the cloth is authentically produced as outlined by the 1993 Act, checked October 15, 2026.
The product page does not publish an Orb certification number. The mark guarantees the origin of the cloth, not the construction of the jacket sewn from it.
US prices run near 1.7 times the sterling figure
This is the number to price in before you shop. The Men's Harris Tweed Jacket, code TR40673, displayed $555.00, while the same page's machine-readable product data carried 325.00 GBP.
The lambswool sweater, code TT21782, showed $130.00 against 75.00 GBP in the same field. Both pages were read on October 15, 2026.
Our arithmetic on those two pairs: $555.00 is 1.71 times £325, and $130.00 is 1.73 times £75. The ratio holds across a $130 item and a $555 one.
The store explains part of the gap. Product pages state that all prices quoted include tax and duties, and the US shipping note promises no additional fees or tariffs on arrival.
What is not published is the breakdown. No checkout quote is available without placing an order, so we cannot say how much of the gap is duty, freight or margin.
Treat the dollar figure as the real price and ignore the sterling one. It is what you are charged, and the store commits in writing to no extra charge on delivery.
Two product pages publish two different shipping promises
Both pages below sit on the same US site, and both were read on October 15, 2026. They do not agree.
The lambswool sweater page carries a US block: standard shipping $8, free over $200, with the order shipped within four to six business days.
The Harris Tweed jacket page carries a UK block instead: dispatch within two working days, UK standard £4.95, UK express £7.95, and free delivery options for most countries.
The site banner takes the first side. Every page captured carried a strip advertising free delivery on all orders above $200.
Four to six business days to ship is slower than two working days to dispatch. Plan on the slower figure, since it is the one published on the US-specific block.
Returns at least agree. Both pages allow a return in saleable condition within one month, at your cost, refunded only when the error is the store's.
One more US-only rule sits on the How to Buy page: the US site cannot process promotional discount codes, and holders are told to phone customer services instead.
Our wider House of Bruar review covers the delivery and returns pages in full, including a different dispatch figure published in the FAQ.
Buy it if, skip it if
Buy it if all of these are true:
- You want country clothing with the fibre content printed on the page, not a vague premium blend.
- You can hand wash or pay for dry cleaning, because almost nothing in this catalog goes in a machine.
- You are ordering menswear, where UK and US garment numbers match on the published converter.
- You are spending over $200, the point where the published $8 shipping charge disappears.
Skip it if any of these are true:
- You are ordering womenswear or footwear without measuring first, because the label arrives in UK sizing.
- You want the Food Hall or hampers, which the How to Buy page says cannot be sold into the US for customs reasons.
- You expect a discount code to work, since the same page says the US site cannot process them.
- You need a tracked delivery guarantee, which is published as a window rather than a promise.
Nothing here is cheap, and the store does not pretend otherwise. What it does publish is the fibre, the care rule and the size system, which is more than most catalogs give you.
We ran the same written-terms test on a US cap brand and on a gaming chair warranty.
Frequently asked
Does House of Bruar use UK or US sizing?
Both, in different places. The label inside the garment shows the UK size, and the Guide to Sizing publishes converters. Men's garment numbers match UK to US; ladies sizes run four lower in US terms, read October 15, 2026.
Why is House of Bruar more expensive in dollars than in pounds?
The store says US prices include tax and duties. On the two items checked October 15, 2026, the dollar figure was 1.71 and 1.73 times the sterling figure sitting in each page's own product data.
How much is shipping to the United States?
The US shipping block on the lambswool product page lists $8 standard, free over $200, with the order shipped in four to six business days. A site-wide banner repeats the $200 threshold.
Is House of Bruar tweed real Harris Tweed?
The Men's Harris Tweed Jacket is listed as 100% pure new wool under the Harris Tweed name. The Harris Tweed Authority says the Orb mark guarantees cloth produced as the 1993 Act sets out.
Can I return a House of Bruar order if the size is wrong?
Yes, within one month and in saleable condition. Both product pages checked state that goods go back at your own cost, refunded only if the return is due to an error by the store.
Why is a Scottish clothing store reviewed on a supplement site?
It is outside our usual beat, and we say so plainly. The method is unchanged: read what the seller puts in writing, date it, ignore the marketing. The same rubric runs our evidence guide.
Bottom line
House of Bruar publishes more hard detail than most catalogs: fibre content, care rules, garment measurements, and a size converter that admits brand variation exists.
The weak spot is consistency. Two product pages give two shipping promises, and the dollar price sits well above a straight conversion with no published breakdown.
For menswear the sizing risk is small. For womenswear and footwear, measure before ordering, because a wrong size costs you the return postage.
Order one piece first, open it the day it lands, and decide inside the one-month window rather than at the end of it.
